Peter Orlando

1921 — 2009

Peter Orlando (1921–2009) was an American painter and ceramicist who settled in France after the Second World War. Trained first in drawing in the United States and later at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he developed, together with Denise Orlando, a body of ceramic work now admired for its refined forms, restrained lines, and quietly inventive decoration.

Their work belongs to the renewal of postwar ceramics, at the intersection of decorative arts and plastic creation. In 1968, Peter Orlando left ceramics to devote himself fully to painting, but his ceramic works remain appreciated for their modern elegance and delicate execution.
