Isao Hosoe

1942 — 2015

Isao Hosoe (1942–2015) was a Japanese engineer and designer who built most of his career in Milan. Trained in aerospace engineering in Tokyo, he brought a highly technical yet poetic approach to design, combining movement, ergonomics, and innovation. After collaborating in Italy with Alberto Rosselli within the Ponti-Fornaroli-Rosselli circle, he founded his own studio in 1985 and developed projects across furniture, lighting, transport, and industrial design. He also taught extensively, notably at the Politecnico di Milano, and received major recognition including the Compasso d’Oro.
