About
Galerie Meubles et Lumières was born from an encounter at the Paul-Bert Serpette Flea Market between two young antique dealers, Guilhem Faget and Alexandre Goult, brought together by a shared passion : 20th-century design, beginning in the 1950s. After nearly a decade of formative experience in this renowned marketplace, where they honed their expertise, they established themselves as specialists in both French and Italian furniture and lighting design.
Established in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the gallery they opened in 2014 is devoted to rediscovering and promoting the work of talented designers active from the 1950s through the 1980s. Galerie Meubles et Lumières quickly became a reference point, showcasing creations by acclaimed designers such as Pierre Guariche, Gino Sarfatti, Louis Sognot, Gio Ponti, Robert Mathieu, Pierre Paulin, Michel Boyer, Maria Pergay, Mathieu Matégot, and many more. These pieces are displayed alongside works by lesser-known but equally fascinating designers, including Xavier Féal, Claude Morin, Christian Adam, Ben Swildens, Jacques Biny, and Bernard Govin.
In recent years, the gallery has turned its attention to the avant-garde of the 1960s—a period marked by revolutionary, modular design reflecting new ways of living. This transformative aesthetic became a creative playground for Pierre Paulin, as well as Bernard Govin, Christian Adam, and Lionel Morgaine.
The gallerists have also conducted in-depth research on Verre Lumière, the high-end lighting manufacturer founded in 1967 by Max Ingrand, whose design studio welcomed the greatest talents of the era and illuminated many of its most prestigious architectural projects.
Lighting from the 1950s—symbolic of a world in the midst of profound transformation—has become one of their key areas of exploration. They have played a central role in reviving interest in the remarkable work of Robert Mathieu, now a fixture among collectors of the period, while also championing the work of more discreet yet equally compelling figures such as Jacques Biny and Jean-Pierre Vincent.
Among the monographic and thematic exhibitions they have curated: Claude Morin’s blown glass, Michel Deverne’s collages, Les 120 ans du SAD (Société des Artistes Décorateurs), Verre Lumière Édition, Robert Mathieu’s lighting, Mireille Moser’s ceramics, Xavier Féal’s stainless steel furniture and lighting,
French Lighting of the 1950s, and most recently, three families of lighting showcased in “Et la lumière fut!” (“And there was light!”)
In 2022, they inaugurated a new space at 31 rue de Seine, continuing their journey of discovery and celebration of modern design.
