Maxime Old

1910 — 1991

Maxime Old (1910–1991) was a major figure in 20th-century French furniture design and interior architecture. Trained at the École Boulle and shaped by the legacy of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, he developed an elegant style at the crossroads of Art Deco and postwar modernism.

A furniture designer as well as an interior decorator, he created both refined individual pieces and large-scale interior schemes for hotels, institutions, banks, and ocean liners. His work is distinguished by the purity of its lines, the quality of its craftsmanship, and a constant attention to function.
