Charles Ramos

1825 —

Charles Ramos (1925–?) was a French designer renowned for his elegant and minimalist creations during the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Algeria into a family of cabinetmakers, he studied at the Beaux-Arts in Algiers before joining the Free French Forces in London during World War II. Upon returning to Paris, he began a career in interior design in 1950, collaborating with publishers such as Castellanetta and Magnani.

Ramos is celebrated for designs that combine functionality and aesthetics, using materials like ash, black laminate, and brass. His major works include the “Ramos” sideboard (1958) and the “Ellipse” armchair (1962), along with several coffee tables and bookshelves that epitomize mid-century French design. His pieces continue to be sought after by collectors of vintage and mid-century furniture.
