Jacques Pouchain was a key figure in post-war French ceramics. Trained in architecture and painting, he settled in Dieulefit in the 1950s, where he developed a distinctive body of work combining refined forms with incised decoration inspired by animals and primitive imagery.

Often finished in white or dark glazes, his ceramics are marked by a strong graphic and expressive quality. Blending functional objects with sculptural intent, his work played an important role in the renewal of artistic ceramics in 20th-century France.
