Michel Armand
Michel Armand was born on February 12, 1935, in Bordeaux, France, and passed away on January 6, 2015, in Cahors, France. He became known during the 1960s and 1970s as a talented designer specializing in sculptural lamps with organic forms. Deeply inspired by nature, Armand worked with noble materials such as bronze, brass, and nickel to create lighting pieces that resembled mushrooms, flowers, flames, or hives. His most iconic creation, the “Morille” lamp (circa 1970), stands out for its slender bronze stem and distinctive shade made of golden brass tubes arranged in a fan shape, standing approximately 78 cm tall. These exceptional pieces were produced in very limited numbers by Atelier Michel Armand Inc., a studio based in Montreal between 1978 and 1986, originally led by Robert Martin and Michel Dumas. Today, Armand's lamps—especially the Morille—are highly sought after by collectors of mid-century modern design.
