Maison Charles

1908 —

Founded in Paris in 1908, Maison Charles is one of France’s leading historic houses dedicated to high-end decorative lighting, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship in bronze, brass, and finely executed hand-applied finishes.

Originally established as an art foundry producing decorative bronze objects, the house quickly distinguished itself through the quality and refinement of its creations, drawing inspiration from both classical French traditions and a more expressive decorative approach. After the Second World War, Maison Charles entered a new phase of development and became a key figure in the decorative revival of the 1950s to 1970s.

During this period, the house developed a distinctive visual language combining naturalistic forms, vegetal and animal motifs, and an elegant interpretation of modernism. Stylized palm trees, foliage, wheat sheaves, bamboo structures, and abstract compositions became emblematic of its identity. Often monumental in scale, Maison Charles lighting fixtures are characterized by their sculptural presence, rich patinas, and a remarkable sense of proportion.

Maison Charles worked closely with interior designers, architects, and decorators on prestigious private residences, hotels, and major decorative schemes in France and abroad. Its largely artisanal production allowed for extensive customization, variations, and bespoke commissions, contributing to the rarity and individuality of its pieces.
