Oscar Torlasco
Oscar Torlasco (1934–2004) was an Italian designer born in 1934. During his career, he worked for numerous lighting manufacturers, including Esperia, Lumen, and Lumi, spending most of his time at the latter two, where he served as artistic director. Alongside Gino Sarfatti at Arteluce and Gaetano Sciolari at Stilnovo, he is considered one of the three greatest Italian lighting designers of the 1950s and 1960s.
Particularly active during this period, Torlasco created lamps, wall sconces, and floor lamps. He experimented with a variety of materials, including lacquered metal, marble, crystal, and brass. His eclectic style ranges from Italian Art Deco to more industrial and Space Age aesthetics. He is also known for his lighting designs incorporating lenses, one of his signature elements. In 1959, he was awarded the Compasso d’Oro for his Genova 4053 model.
