Gérard Guermonprez

Gérard Guermonprez was a French furniture designer active mainly during the 1950s and 1960s. Trained at the École Boulle, he belonged to the generation of post-war designers who sought to create modern, functional furniture suited to new domestic interiors.

His work is closely associated with the Magnani workshop, for which he designed sideboards, desks, tables, chairs, and other pieces of household furniture. Guermonprez’s designs are marked by clean lines, balanced proportions, and a strong sense of construction. He often worked with oak and other woods, sometimes combined with black lacquered metal bases or structures.

Elegant yet restrained, his furniture reflects the spirit of French modern design after the Second World War: practical, well-made, and accessible, while remaining carefully proportioned and formally refined. His pieces are today appreciated for their discreet modernity and the quality of their execution.
