Carlo Scarpa
1906 — 1978
An influential Italian architect and designer of the 20th century, Carlo Scarpa is renowned for an erudite approach to architecture in which modernity, history, and craftsmanship coexist through an exceptional attention to detail and materials.
Born in Venice, he developed a highly personal architectural language, defined by precision, material sensitivity, and poetic spatial sequences, exemplified by the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona and the Brion Cemetery. Alongside his architectural work, his collaborations with Murano glassmakers—particularly Venini—played a crucial role in shaping modern Italian glass design.
