Bobo Piccoli
Bobo Piccoli (1927–1981) was an Italian artist and designer from Milan, trained in painting at the Brera Academy where he absorbed the influence of leading figures of modern art. Active in Milan’s postwar cultural scene, he developed a multidisciplinary practice that spanned painting, sculpture, mosaics, and design. His collaboration with FontanaArte in the 1960s marked a decisive turning point, leading to the creation of some of his most iconic lighting pieces, including the Re and Regina lamps in 1968—shaped like chess pieces—and the Clessidra wall lamp in the early 1970s. These works, positioned between art and function, embody his fascination with architectural forms, symbolism, and light, securing his place in the history of 20th-century Italian design.
