Maison Cheret
Founded in 1923 by Maurice Chéret, Maison Chéret is the heir to an artisanal tradition dating back to 1830, when the Cabaret family established their workshop in Paris’s Saint-Sulpice district, renowned for its sacred art and craftsmanship. Specializing in the creation of custom liturgical objects, Maison Chéret has become a cornerstone of religious art in France, blending tradition, innovation, and contemporary elegance.
A Family Legacy of Craftsmanship When Maurice Chéret took over the family business in 1923, he breathed new life into the workshop, quickly establishing it as a reference for exceptional liturgical works. His son, Jean Chéret, an architect by training, succeeded him and continued this pursuit of excellence, modernizing the designs while preserving the artisanal heritage. After Jean’s passing in 1982, his wife, Claude Chéret, took the helm for nearly 40 years, expanding the Maison’s influence and diversifying its offerings. Under her leadership, Maison Chéret introduced a range of contemporary jewelry and collaborated with artists to renew its liturgical collection.
A Timeless and Refined Style Maison Chéret is distinguished by its sleek and contemporary aesthetic, where each piece is designed to combine functionality, beauty, and spirituality. Often one-of-a-kind or produced in limited series, its creations adorn churches, cathedrals, and religious institutions across France and beyond. Among its most notable works are:
- Tabernacles and candleholders designed for prestigious religious buildings.
- Episcopal crosiers, such as the silver-plated metal and carved ivory crosier (1950), now preserved in the Maison’s archives.
- Custom liturgical objects, including chalices, ciboria, and monstrances, where metal, wood, and precious stones harmonize with understated elegance.
A Successful Transmission In 2020, Maison Chéret began a new chapter in its history with the arrival of Antoine Chevillard, a passionate advocate for art and craftsmanship, committed to preserving the Maison’s spirit while bringing it into the 21st century. Under his leadership, the workshop continues to produce unique pieces, while opening its doors to contemporary creators and showcasing works that bridge tradition and modernity.
Today, Maison Chéret remains a place of art, history, and creation, where each object tells a story of faith, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty. Its creations, featured in prestigious collections such as those of Notre-Dame de Paris, bear witness to a rare artisanal heritage, where sacred art and innovation come together to elevate places of worship
