Bernard De Swarte

1920 — 1998

Bernard de Swarte (1920 - 1998) was a prominent French designer active during the 1950s and 1960s, known for his modernist, functional, and refined furniture creations. His work is characterized by clean lines, sculptural forms, and the use of innovative materials for the time, such as polished aluminum, solid wood, and leather.

Among his most notable creations is a chaise longue designed around 1959, which skillfully combines lacquered aluminum and leather, perfectly embodying his technical and aesthetic approach to design. De Swarte also designed buffets, side tables, and other furniture pieces characterized by angular and curved lines, often crafted in beech or oak wood with carefully detailed brass accents.

Through his works, Bernard de Swarte successfully combined functionality and elegance, creating pieces that are both practical and sculptural, continuing to influence and inspire the world of contemporary design.
