Don S. Shoemaker
1930 — 1990
Don S. Shoemaker (1930–1990) was an American designer who settled in Mexico in the late 1950s. Founder of Señal S.A. in Michoacán, he developed during the 1960s and 1970s a body of modernist furniture that is both architectural and warm in character, handcrafted in collaboration with local artisans.
His pieces — lounge chairs, sling chairs, coffee tables, and case pieces — are distinguished by their generous proportions, visible joinery, and the use of richly grained tropical hardwoods, particularly cocobolo (as well as parota and rosewood).
