Arlus

1946 —

Founded in Paris in 1946 by Louis Durot, Maison Arlus quickly established itself as one of the leading names in modern French lighting. Based in the 11th arrondissement with a showroom in the 17th, the company offered original designs that combined clean lines, functionality, and innovative materials. Brass, lacquered metal, opaline glass, and Perspex became the hallmark of its creations. During the 1950s, Arlus reached its peak, producing extendable wall sconces, elegant floor lamps, and “paquebot” chandeliers that embodied the refined, understated aesthetics of mid-century design. The company distinguished itself through a fully integrated model—designing, manufacturing, and distributing its own pieces—which allowed it to offer exclusive, high-quality lighting to a wide audience. Today, Arlus luminaires are highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts, valued for their craftsmanship and timeless appeal, standing as icons of France’s postwar design renaissance.
