Claudio Salocchi

1934 — 2012

Claudio Salocchi was an Italian architect and designer who embodied the Milanese avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s. A graduate of the Politecnico di Milano, he opened his own studio in 1965 and began collaborating with Sormani in 1967, creating the Ellisse collection in extruded aluminum, now considered iconic. Always attentive to technical innovation and functionality, he also designed the modular kitchen system Metrosistema for Alberti Cucine, which earned him the Compasso d’Oro in 1979. Beyond furniture, he created lighting for Lumenform and pursued experimental research through the Centro Ricerche Non Finalizzate, founded in 1973. An active figure in the Italian design scene and vice-president of the ADI in the late 1980s, Salocchi left a body of work defined by material experimentation, modularity, and an architectural vision applied to furniture and objects.
