History:

Designed by Burkhard Vogtherr in 1969 for Rosenthal Studio Line, the modular Vario Pillo sofa perfectly illustrates Rosenthal’s openness to avant-garde design in the late 1960s and embodies the free, experimental spirit of German design during this period.

Already renowned for its porcelain, the German company was then developing a line dedicated to furniture and interior design, entrusted to contemporary designers capable of exploring new forms of comfort. With its independent elements, freely recomposable into different configurations, Vario Pillo reflects this search for a more flexible, mobile and informal kind of furniture.

Its generous volumes, moulded structures and compositional principle make it an emblematic piece of the Rosenthal Studio Line spirit: a meeting point between industrial rigour, formal freedom and a modern art of living.
