Designed by Silvio Coppola for Artemide in the 1970s, the Quinta lighting elements occupy a singular place in the history of Italian design. More than a simple suspension lamp, Quinta functions as a true architectural element: a large stretched textile surface crossed by a light source whose height can be adjusted, allowing the piece to structure space as much as to illuminate it. The model appears in the 1976 Artemide Studio A catalogue, where it is described as a height-adjustable suspension in textile and metal.
Through its scale and its principle of tension, Quinta can be used as a room divider, creating a light, luminous and almost scenographic boundary within an interior. Light no longer merely illuminates: it becomes a partition, a rhythm and a spatial presence. This architectural dimension perfectly reflects Artemide’s spirit in the 1970s, when the company was exploring ambitious new typologies of lighting.
Our set of fourteen elements, including six lighting elements, is particularly exceptional. It reveals the full strength of the system imagined by Coppola: not an isolated object, but a true modular composition, capable of organizing space and transforming the perception of an interior. Rare on the market, such a set stands as a testament to the experimental boldness of Italian design in the 1970s and to Artemide’s major role in the history of modern lighting.
