Created by Geneviève Dangles and Christian Defrance for Burov, the Model 44 armchairs, known as Saturne, are among the most emblematic seating designs of 1950s French design. Presented in Paris in 1957 at the Salon des Arts Ménagers, the model is distinguished by its circular silhouette, at once graphic, enveloping and profoundly modern. Its lacquered metal structure, combined with a generous seat, perfectly reflects the balance between technical innovation, comfort and formal elegance that defined Burov’s research during this period.
With its singular, almost orbital design, Saturne moves beyond the simple function of seating to become a sculptural presence in space. Rare on the market, this pair stands as a testament to the boldness of post-war French furniture and to the important place occupied by Geneviève Dangles and Christian Defrance in the history of 1950s design.
