INGRAND Max

French master glassmaker, decorator and designer, 1908 - 1969.

Max Ingrand is a master glassmaker and designer. His passage trough JAcques Gruber workshop initiate him to the stain glass art. After that he graduates the Beaux-Arts and the Ecole Nationale de Arts Décoratifs. He realised a lot of public commands for the French State and participated actively to the the restauration of the stain glasses destroyed during the WW II.

Taken prisoner during the war, he reopen after that his worshop in the 14th district in Paris in 1945. Prodigy of the colours, the light, the transparency, he is not only a famous glassmaker. He is also a talented designer mastering the codes of the industrial production.

Max Ingrand is artistic director of the editor Fontana Arte until 1967. He wanted to create his own edition house and transfers his fonctions to Gae Aulenti. In 1962 he opens his workshop in Paris he become the exclusive representative of Fontana Arte in Paris. In 1968, he creates the company Verre Lumière in association with Saint-Gobain (glass manufacturer) and Mazda ( subsidiary of Thomson). A lot of new creators collaborated with this new firm : Michel Boyer, Sabine Charoy, Etienne Fermigier, Michel Mortier, J-A Motte, César Putzeys, Pierre Soulié, Ben Swildens, Jean-Pierre Vitrac..

 

The glass researchs has been central to his work troughout his lifetime.
