CHIESA Pietro
Milan, 1892- Paris, 1948
After having studied at the Academie des Beaux Arts of Brera Pietro Chiesa became an apprentice in the Gianotti glass studio and in 1921 opened his own glass studio, Bottega di Pietro Chiesa. The finesse of his work which allied modernity and his own personal talent permitted him to participate in major art events such as the Biennale of Monza, the Biennale of Venice, the Decorative Arts Exposition of Paris (1925) and in other various expositions in Barcelona and Cologne. It was in 1932 that Gio Ponti asked him to share the artistic direction of the young company Fontana Arte, where until the end of his life he was able to express his creative genius and to design pieces that in our age would become icons such as the Fontana table in curved glass (1932) and the Luminator floor lamp (1933).
